Success Stories: Thanks to Our Experts, a Project Scientist in Interactive Computer Systems Obtained NIW Confirmation Despite Delay

Case Summary:

As an expert in the field of interactive computer systems, our NIW (National Interest Waiver) client from Taiwan proposes to continue his research on enhanced human-computer interaction (HCI). Although his work has diverse applications, its importance is especially notable through its direct relevance to monitoring and combating environmental factors, such as hazardous levels of air pollution.

The I-140 NIW category visa is a part of nonimmigrant visas under the EB2 category which requires the applicants to show that their work is valuable to the U.S.A. Our team makes this possible for clients who come to us at NAILG by collecting data from their certificates, transcripts, CVs, etc., and using them to compile a strong petition for them.

This is exactly what we did for our Taiwanese client. We collected the following data and personalized his petition:

• He has also already conducted at least 3 reviews, including reviews for international magazines and journals.
• Finally, he collected 6 letters of recommendation from experts in his field of which two had the following opinion of his work:

“The value of [the client’s] work in this area lies in its broad range of applications. His interactive system has made previously collected data more accessible and transparent and makes it easy for researchers to present meaningful narratives on a variety of topics. [The client’s] work has already been used to visualize issues including deforestation, refugee flows, urban growth, and air pollution. As the benefits of [the client’s] research make clear, he is a valuable figure that is pioneering interactive computer system advancements necessary for a variety of scientific projects.”

“[The client’s] research holds a great deal of value domestically, which is reflected in reports by federal government agencies. [The client] has focused on community citizen science (CCS), which typically includes the curation and visualization of multiple types of scientific data, using artificial intelligence (e.g., computer vision, machine learning) to facilitate knowledge development, and the evaluation of citizen attitudes. The significance and relevance of [client’s] contributions to these and other innovative efforts demonstrate the need for his continued work. [The client] is engaged in an extremely useful area of research that has benefitted and will continue to benefit the study and development of computer systems that bolster community knowledge and engagement to effect positive change in the community. Given that [the client] is an especially talented and accomplished individual in his field of study, his sustained research is beneficial to the United States.”
